Creating Grok Bot agents that do the work

[I've been doing intensive testing of Grok Bot for the past weeks. There are many articles about Grok Bot but most of them are very shallow. It was hard for me to find useful stuff.

These are the 4 things that worked for me:

• Bot creation using Dr. Eggbot.
• Create relevant skills for the bot.
• Give the bot access to all the tools it needs.
• Create a way for the bot to improve itself on a regular basis.

Be very clear about what you expect from the agent. Do not focus too much on the how (skills do that) explain what you want from the bot. What you find acceptable and what you don't. When the bot delivers something that you are not happy with explain to CoS what's wrong and what needs to change. CoS will update the bot accordingly.

Add skills

Ask your CoS about what skills are available and how to create new ones. Bots without skills perform very poorly. Adding skills made a big difference in the results.

Skills should be focused on business logic. In my case the SEO skills are a mix of generic SEO advice mixed with our target customers and market. We build business software for the agentic era so we made that very clear to the bot.

I did some research about the best SEO skills and I created a few of them for this bot:

• Search and AI SEO

• Keyword and question research

• Writer content brief

• Page audit and refresh plan

• Organic week pack-out

• Post-publish content retro

• Draft the fix

Give it access to the tools it needs.

In this case I gave the bot access to the Google Search Console and my website analytics. With those 2 sites the bot has access to all the relevant data it needs to perform its job.

Create a way for the bot to evaluate and improve itself.

For my case I have some landing pages I'm very interested in. My main metric is Trials. Every monday morning the bot creates a summary of the last week and adds it to a spreadsheet. Then it uses the data in the spreadsheet to evaluate weekly, monthly and quarterly results. With that data it updates its own skill to improve the performance.

Summary

Spend some time creating and teaching your bot. Do not expect to create a bot or install one from the marketplace and then all is good. You need to teach it (use skills) and make it learn and improve.
